Academics

Students in the classroom

At Bishop McGuinness, we take academics very seriously. Fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and by the state of North Carolina, we focus on helping each student excel in learning and prepare for future academic success.

Courses are offered at different levels to fit different needs, interests and capabilities. Our professional staff offers guidance and advice to help students understand course options and select the most suitable program.

Curriculum is organized on the following three levels:

College Prep Courses

Appropriate for most students, our standard college prep courses prepare students academically and build strong study habits to help students excel in college and beyond.

Honors Program

For students who have a demonstrated aptitude and interest in particular subjects, our honors courses offer a greater challenge and move at a faster pace. One additional quality point is added to the grade point average for each honors course in which the student is enrolled.

Advanced Placement Courses

Advanced Placement courses are available to students with superior academic and learning ability. These courses involve considerably more study time outside of class. Two additional quality points are added to the grade point average for each advanced placement course in which the student is enrolled.

Course Credits From Other Schools

Bishop accepts courses offered by other accredited institutions including high schools, community and other colleges, online courses and other schools. Credit for these courses must be approved by Bishop in advance.
