Electronic Music & Studio Recording Camp
June 28 - July 2 2010 10AM-3PM Monday - Friday Application Form
This camp is designed for middle or high school students interested in learning about electronic music and recording technology. Some knowledge of music (playing an instrument) is helpful but not necessary. Students will learn the basics of state-of-the-art music software, while working on their own projects. Throughout the week, each participant will work toward producing an original song(s) or composition(s) to be burned onto a CD as a final product. Keyboards, guitars, and percussion instruments are available for recordings.
Each day we will work in the Bishop McGuinness recording studio. The week begins with instruction and demonstration of all hardware and software. Break-time snacks are provided. Bring your own lunch for dining in the Bishop McGuinness cafeteria! Students will rotate learning different software throughout the day. Space is limited so please call before enrolling: 564-1044.

For intermediate students: You must be able to read and play music in the open position.
Dr. Alan Hirsh is the Music Director at Bishop McGuinness High School and adjunct Guitar instructor at Wake Forest University. He is also member of the Winston-Salem Guitar Septet and the director and founder of the Piedmont Guitar Orchestra, now in its 11th year. Hirsh has served as guest clinician/conductor of the US/Mexico Guitar Orchestra at the Guitar Foundation of America and Southwest Guitar Festival in San Antonio as well as guest clinician/conductor at the Appalachian Guitar Festival in Boone, NC.
Dr. Hirsh has composed and arranged extensively for the guitar, both in solo, ensemble, and orchestra mediums. His original works appear in other Mel Bay publications such as Twenty Etudes in fixed Positions, Aaron Shearer's Learning the Classic Guitar Part II, New Music for Classic Guitar, and a 6-volume Guitar Orchestra Collection. Dr. Hirsh’s compositions have been recorded on the CD’s Higher Ground by James Reid and Reflections by Joe Pecoraro.
