Counseling Center Announcements

Course Scheduling for 2012-13

We have begun the process of scheduling for next year and evaluating students for placement in classes appropriate to their level of readiness. Foundation, College Prep and Honors placement are made based upon teacher evaluation, classroom performance in prerequisite courses and standardized test scores. There is a separate process for rising juniors and seniors who wish to be considered for AP courses; details will be forthcoming.

The following is our scheduling plan:

  • April 16-25th AP Course Assessments for rising Juniors and Seniors (Schedule on Website & Posted In Counseling)
  • April 27 Course recommendation forms distributed through homeroom
  • May 17 Final Course Lists Sent Home
  • May 21 Course Lists Due Counseling

We need your help and cooperation with two very important steps in this process. On April 27 we will send home a list of the course recommendations made for your student by their teachers. We hope you will review the courses with your student to prepare him/her for a course selection session the following week. Students will have the opportunity to choose electives and move to a different level if they feel their course load is too rigorous; however, students may not select an Honors or AP level course without a teacher recommendation.

On Friday, May 17, we will send home a final course list and ask you to sign and return it to the Counseling Center by Tuesday, May 21 so we can begin scheduling. Schedule changes requested after this date will incur a $30.00 fee.

Thank you, in advance, for helping us make this a thorough, thoughtful process that will minimize the disruption to the process caused by schedule changes.

Attention Juniors

Have you made an appointment with Mrs. London or Mr. Lezan for your Junior Interview? This is an excellent opportunity to begin the process of college planning or to discuss your next step. Parents are invited to attend. Please call or come by the Counseling Center to make your appointment soon.

College Visits

Did you know that students are given three days to visit the colleges of their choice? Juniors may use one of those days to visit a college. Spring semester is a great time to take advantage of college Open House events, which can help narrow your college application list.

Progress Reports

Progress reports for students who are in danger of failing , will no longer be sent by mail. If there is a concern, a notice will be sent to the parent’s e-mail address. We believe this is a more efficient, secure, and confidential way to communicate this information to parents.
