Covid 19 Emergency Relief Fund

Financial Considerations and Support

Thankfully, Bishop entered this crisis from a strong financial position. However, like many schools we have experienced a number of unanticipated financial impacts resulting from Covid-19, especially as it relates to a sharp drop in ancillary (non-tuition) income that directly supports the academic program and general operational expenses.

We anticipate additional costs this summer as we prepare the campus for our students return and physical distancing and as our faculty works hard to build their distance learning plans for those who will stay enrolled but learn from home.

The school’s chief revenue source is tuition and its chief expense is teacher salaries. In order to ensure that an exceptional relationship-based educational experience continues to be delivered to all students, whether in the form of on-campus learning or at a distance, Bishop McGuinness relies upon tuition dollars to deliver on its mission.

The Advancement Office has established an Emergency Relief Fund (ERF).

Effective immediately, the ERF provides:

  • Emergency financial assistance, separate from normal budgeted financial aid to current and future families in the Bishop Community who have been impacted by the pandemic. To apply click here
  • Face coverings, hand sanitizer, additional hand washing stations, signage, thermometers and more
  • A School Nurse
  • Technology; such as classroom cameras and software to maintain a comfortable distance learning environment for students who will stay enrolled but are unable to attend in-person classes

We have received a grant from The Cares Act but this will not cover these unexpected expenses. We believe that we will need an additional $80,000 in the ERF. Several supporters of the School have stepped forward to contribute to this Fund. The School is also reaching out to the wider Bishop Community to humbly invite their participation. Of course, we do not expect current families who are experiencing financial stress to contribute to the Fund—indeed, the Fund has been created to support these very families. We are deeply grateful to those who are in a position to do so to contribute. If you would like to make a contribution, please click here or contact me at your earliest convenience.
