As part of our commitment to make Catholic education accessible and affordable for families, Bishop McGuinness accepts the following scholarships and grants from the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA).

 

Opportunity Scholarship  

This state scholarship awards families up to $6,492 per year (2023-2024 school year); it is an income-based program. Students entering Kindergarten, First and Second grade DO NOT need to be enrolled in public school in order to apply for these monies. Students in grades 3 and above must have proof of prior enrollment in a NC public school. For more information about eligibility and the application process, go to NCSEAA Opportunity Scholarship. 

NOTE: Applications for new and renewing students will be available on February 1 of each year. The priority deadline for applications is March 1.

Education Student Accounts (ESA+) program 

The ESA+ program provides scholarships in the amount of up to $9,000 a year, and to cover expenses related to educating a child with a disability* in a participating nonpublic (private or home) school. Students with certain designated disabilities may be eligible to receive $17,000 a year.                                

- Covers tuition and fees at participating schools
- No out-of-pocket expenses (provides families with an electronic debit account)
- Funds can be used for expenses such as speech or occupational therapy, tutoring services, curriculum, and educational technology.

*A student who has an eligibility determination from a North Carolina Individualized Education Program (IEP) dated within the last three years. A current Eligibility Determination form (DEC3 or ECATS) is the form to submit with an application.

Note: Application opens February 1, 2024. The priority deadline is March 1. The application may remain open after March 1, subject to the availability of funds.
